Goniopora corals, often called Flowerpot Corals, are known for their long, flowing polyps and beautiful flower-like appearance. They add incredible movement to a reef tank and can be a real standout when thriving.

LIGHTING

Moderate lighting is generally ideal. Most Goniopora prefer consistent lighting without being placed directly under the most intense areas of the tank.

FLOW

Low to moderate, gentle flow works best. Their polyps should sway softly in the current rather than being blown around.

FEEDING

Goniopora benefit from regular feeding. Fine coral foods, phytoplankton, and other suspended foods can help support long-term health and growth.

PLACEMENT

They can be placed on the sand bed or lower to middle areas of the rockwork where they have room to fully extend their polyps.

WATER QUALITY

Stable water parameters are essential. Consistent alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, salinity, temperature, and nutrient levels will help keep them healthy.

TANK MATES

Give them some space from neighbouring corals to avoid stings and allow their polyps to fully expand.

Overall, Goniopora can be incredibly rewarding to keep, offering beautiful colour and constant movement. With stable conditions, regular feeding, and a suitable spot in the tank, they can become a stunning centrepiece in your reef aquarium.
