Blue Ridge Coral Frag (Heliopora coerulea)

Blue Ridge Coral is one of the most unique corals in the reef hobby. Although it is classified as a soft coral, it grows a hard blue skeleton beneath its tissue. It is generally hardy once established and makes an excellent addition to mixed reef aquariums.

LIGHTING

Moderate to high lighting is recommended. Blue Ridge Coral grows best under stable reef lighting and will often develop better colour and growth when provided with consistent light levels. 

FLOW

Moderate, random water flow is ideal. Good flow helps keep detritus from settling on the colony and promotes healthy tissue growth without constantly blasting the polyps.

FEEDING

Blue Ridge Coral receives most of its nutrition from light through its zooxanthellae. While direct feeding is not necessary, occasional feeding of fine coral foods or plankton-based products can help support growth

PLACEMENT

Can be placed in a variety of locations throughout the aquarium, although it generally performs best in areas with moderate light and flow. When introducing a new frag, allow it time to acclimate before moving it into brighter areas of the tank.

WATER QUALITY

Like most reef-building corals, Blue Ridge Coral appreciates stable water parameters. Consistent alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, salinity, and temperature will help ensure long-term success and steady growth. 

TANK MATES

Blue Ridge Coral is generally peaceful and suitable for mixed reef aquariums. It should still be given enough space around neighbouring corals to allow for future growth and to prevent unwanted competition

Overall, Blue Ridge Coral is a rewarding coral that combines the hardiness of many soft corals with the structure of a stony coral. It is well suited to established reef aquariums and can become a striking feature as it grows, especially when provided with stable water quality, moderate lighting, and good water movement.
