Green Palythoa corals are a popular addition to reef aquariums thanks to their bright green colours, hardy nature, and ease of care. They are fast-growing polyps that can quickly form attractive colonies, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced reef keepers.

LIGHTING

Green Palythoa corals thrive under low to moderate lighting but can adapt to a wide range of reef lighting conditions. Moderate lighting typically produces the best combination of colour and growth.

FLOW

Moderate water flow is ideal. Enough flow should be provided to keep debris from settling on the colony while still allowing the polyps to open fully and comfortably.

FEEDING

Green Palythoa corals obtain most of their energy from light through their symbiotic algae. While feeding is not required, they can benefit from occasional feedings of fine meaty foods, reef roids, phytoplankton, or other coral foods.

PLACEMENT

These corals are extremely adaptable and can be placed in most areas of the aquarium. Start new colonies in a lower to moderate light area and adjust their placement as needed based on colour and polyp extension.

WATER QUALITY

Green Palythoa corals are generally forgiving and tolerate a range of water conditions. However, stable salinity, temperature, alkalinity, calcium, and nutrient levels will promote the healthiest growth and coloration.

TANK MATES

Palythoa corals are generally peaceful but can spread rapidly over surrounding rockwork. Provide enough space if you want to prevent them from growing onto neighbouring corals.

HANDLING

Always use caution when handling Palythoa corals. Many species can contain palytoxin, a potentially dangerous natural toxin. Wear gloves and eye protection when fragging or handling colonies, and avoid exposing cuts or wounds to coral tissue.

Overall, Green Palythoa corals are a hardy, colourful, and rewarding addition to reef aquariums. Their adaptability, fast growth, and vibrant appearance make them an excellent coral for adding colour and movement to both beginner and advanced reef systems.
