Symphyllia wilsoni is a beautiful large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its swirling patterns, vibrant colours, and fleshy appearance. Often called the Wilsoni Coral, it's a stunning showpiece coral that thrives in stable reef aquariums and is best suited to tanks with moderate nutrient levels and gentle conditions.

LIGHTING
Moderate lighting is usually best. Wilsoni corals do not require intense lighting and can become stressed if exposed to excessive light. Too much light may cause the coral to lose colour or remain retracted, while lower to moderate levels typically encourage better polyp extension and colouration.

FLOW
Keep them in an area with low to moderate water movement. They prefer gentle, indirect flow that helps keep sediment from settling on the coral without causing the fleshy tissue to move excessively.

FEEDING
Symphyllia wilsoni can obtain much of its energy from light, but it benefits greatly from occasional feeding. Foods such as mysis shrimp, reef roids, finely chopped seafood, or other meaty foods can help improve growth and maintain vibrant colours.
Target feeding once or twice a week is often appreciated, particularly in lower nutrient systems.

PLACEMENT
Place Wilsoni corals on the sand bed or in a low area of the aquarium where they can rest comfortably without their tissue rubbing against rocks. Their fleshy structure can be damaged if placed on sharp surfaces or subjected to excessive flow.

WATER QUALITY
Stable parameters are essential for long-term success.
Like many LPS corals, Wilsoni corals respond best to stable conditions rather than frequent fluctuations.

TANK MATES
Give your Wilsoni some space from neighbouring corals. While not overly aggressive, they can extend feeder tentacles and may sting nearby corals that are placed too close.
Peaceful fish and non-aggressive coral neighbours are generally the best choice.

OVERALL
Symphyllia wilsoni is a stunning, fleshy coral that can become a real centrepiece in a reef aquarium. With moderate lighting, gentle flow, stable water parameters, and occasional feeding, it will reward you with vibrant colours, impressive patterns, and beautiful polyp extension
