Clownfish are one of the most recognisable and popular marine fish in the aquarium hobby. Known for their vibrant colours, hardy nature, and entertaining personalities, they are an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced reef keepers.

Water Flow
Low to moderate water flow is generally ideal. Clownfish are active swimmers but prefer areas where they can comfortably rest without battling strong currents all day. Providing a mix of flow zones within the aquarium allows them to choose their preferred area.

Feeding
Clownfish are omnivores and readily accept a wide variety of foods, including:
Quality marine pellets
Marine flakes
Mysis shrimp
Brine shrimp
Frozen reef blends
Feed small amounts one to two times daily, ensuring all food is consumed within a few minutes.

Placement
Clownfish can be kept in aquariums of various sizes, although larger tanks offer more stable water conditions and swimming space. While they do not require an anemone, they may choose to host in:
Long Tentacle Anemones
Bubble Tip Anemones
Frogspawn Corals
Hammer Corals
Other soft corals or rock structures
Many clownfish will establish a territory and spend most of their time within a specific area of the tank.

Tank Mates
Clownfish are generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially as they mature or when protecting a hosting coral or anemone. They are usually compatible with:
Tangs
Gobies
Blennies
Wrasses
Most reef-safe fish
Avoid aggressive species that may bully or stress them.

Final Thoughts
Clownfish are a fantastic addition to almost any marine aquarium. Their bright colours, engaging behaviour, and hardy nature make them one of the best fish for reef keepers of all experience levels. With stable water conditions, a varied diet, and suitable tank mates, clownfish can thrive for many years and become a true highlight of the reef tank.
